I know that my earlier post wasn't up to the required length. So, I have been trying to come up with something else to write. The topic presented itself before class.
After an extra long commute - 1.5 hours instead of the usual 50 min - I visited the bathroom. a girls gotta go. And while I was in there a female was in the next stall peeing and TALKING ON THE PHONE. Are we so obsessed with technology and our self importance that we have to multi-task while even going to the bathroom?? I can't believe that this woman thought that the person she was talking to wanted to hear toilets flushing. She was still on the phone when she left. Did she even wash her hands? My personal feeling on this is very clear - it is rude. I don't want to ever hear toilets flushing when I am on the phone.
I think that this is a very good example of how ingrained we can be with technology. Multi-tasking has become part of our lives. People never think twice about talking on the phone while doing other things. I'm not sure that this behavior is helpful. Schools have even banned students from using their various tech toys during school. Teachers found out the kids were cheating during tests by texting each other. What are we becoming? I don't have any answers. But, I do know that you will not hear me talking on the phone and going to the bathroom.
Once upon a time I wondered what I'd do if my phone rang while I was "seated." It did that one day when I was at work and... well... I didn't know what to do! First I giggled and then I saw that the call was coming from my home. Since I was the only one in the "room," I answered in a whisper: "I've always wondered what I'd do if the phone rang while I was in here. I'll call ya back."
There's a first and last time for everything!
